The research group “Geographic Information Infrastructures” within the Department of Geoinformatics aims at leveraging Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) for geospatial data management, analysis and visualisation from desktop workstations in distributed cloud-based environments. SDIs keep single, current, definitive and authoritative versions of geospatial data in one place, accessible via standardized online services.

Our research and practice are focussed on

  • development of web processing frameworks
  • implementation of SDI building blocks, in international environments
  • bringing GII/SDI into Z_GIS’ education programs
  • promoting the vision and best practice of SDI-based work across domains
  • developing dynamic interface paradigms like eg storymaps
